Fly Fishing Combo Kits Available in SA

Combo Kits are not always just for beginners, sometimes you just need a rod that you drive along behind the back seat of your bakkie or you suddenly discovered a new fishing spot while discovering South Africa but your gear is at home in another town or even province. Then perhaps a combo kit is there to save the day.

Or what happened to me. I always had enough rods to keep the kids busy as their attention span was short enough that they could share. But on the last trip to Blue Crane farm suddenly everyone was dedicated fishing from dawn to dusk. I ended up sitting on the side having a beer. Just there and then I decided to go to town and get an extra rod. I got the Orvis kit, not the cheapest, in hind sight I could have gotten two cheaper combos, but rather got the Orvis kit and a new reel for an older rod that the little one could use. Happy with the purchase we hit the water for the rest of the weekend. Daddy could now fish in “peace”, casting… helping one kid with a tangle, cast once, help the other sprite etc. Was having an extra rod handy? Yes. Am I satisfied with the Orvis? No 😉 , because I never get to fish with the lovely combo kit.
