Welcome to Haenertsburg Trout Association
Magoebaskloof is home to the Haenertsburg Trout Association (HTA) and is thought to be the oldest fly fishing club in South Africa.
The club has more than three hundred members of all ages. They benefit from a hatchery, chalets and camping sites and a large communal clubhouse on the banks of the often mist-shrouded Ebenezer dam, only a few kilometres from Haenertsburg. This picturesque village nestles at the northern foothills of the Drakensburg Mountains approximately sixty kilometres from Polokwane.
The club has fishing rights on 2 streams namely the Broederstroom and the Helpmekaar as well as 7 pristine still waters.

The Iron Crown Clubhouse (Still Waters)
GPS E23 92.8 N 29 98.4
Ebenezer Dam plays an important part in the HTA’s history. The club is situated in what was once the old sailing club’s premise and has five basic chalets – each sleeping four, camping sites and a modern and clean ablution block. In accordance with a decision taken by the majority of members, there is no electricity but there is hot water, once provided by a donkey boiler but now generated by gas geysers – a recent concession to the reduction of global warming.
During winter, Ebenezer provides fantastic fishing for large trout and a five kg monster was caught recently on a lure by a bass angler. In summer Fly fishermen can hook trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, red breast and blue kurper, barbell and huge carp that regularly take dry flies.
